Dr. Brandon Carpenter, Director of Schools for Carter County Schools, issued a statement regarding the lockdowns at Happy Valley High School, Happy Valley Middle, Happy Valley Elementary, and Central Elementary School on Thursday afternoon.
“On February 1, 2024, Carter County Schools experienced a substantial threat of school violence in which Happy Valley High School was indicated as the intended target. Our local law enforcement agencies responded quickly and have followed up with an increase in police presence at our schools. The cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies and Carter County Schools was proven to be swift and effective. Currently, law enforcement officials are continuing to conduct investigations on these threats. Such threats are taken seriously by law enforcement and Carter County Schools’ administration. Individuals that participate in such actions will be investigated and charged to the fullest extent of the law. We have many protocols in place to ensure the safety of our students and we will continue to adapt to ensure that our students remain safe while attending Carter County Schools. As always, the safety of our students and staff is and will remain top priority,” stated Dr. Brandon Carpenter.
