JOHNSON CITY — Karly Wilhjelm, hailing from Johnson City, Tennessee, signed scholarship papers on Wednesday to further her athletic and academic journey at Milligan University. Wilhjelm, who has competed unattached at the high school level, is set to graduate from Science Hill this spring.

Coming from a family with a rich athletic background, Wilhjelm inherits a legacy of sporting excellence. Her father, Matt, was a standout quarterback at Science Hill and ETSU, while her mother, Karen, excelled as a high jumper at ETSU. Additionally, her brother, Brock, currently shines as a distance runner at Daniel Boone High School.

Milligan’s cross country and track coach, Chris Layne, who previously recruited and signed Wilhjelm’s mother at ETSU, expressed his enthusiasm about having Wilhjelm join the Milligan team.

“Just really excited about what Karly brings to the table as a person, a student, and as an athlete,” Layne commented. “There is no question she has a tremendous amount of upside, and we’re looking forward to her helping keep this tradition of national success alive in our women’s program.”

Wilhjelm’s signing represents not only a personal achievement but also underscores Milligan University’s commitment to nurturing talent and maintaining a tradition of excellence in athletics.
