February 11, 1960 – March 29, 2024

On Friday, March 29, 2024, John E. Honeycutt, Elizabethton, Tenn., was freed of all earthly illness and is now reunited with all those gone before him. His main hobby after retiring was cleaning cars and the chariots in Heaven will be spotless! He had many accomplishments including Carter County Hall of Fame and National Umpires Hall of Fame Bronze Level Medal. He was a retired teacher and coach.

Those left to enjoy the memories are his wife, Natalie Merryman Honeycutt; his son, Jonathan Heath Honeycutt; his daughter, Bonnie Peters and husband Phil; his granddaughter, Kailey Peters; his sister, Jacklin Perkins; his special cousin, David Syder; his loyal friend, Roger Shaw; his special friend and former teammate, Wes Perry; and neighbor and friend, Eddie Holly.

There will be no formal funeral but there will be a gathering on Thursday, April 4, between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room of Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton to pay respects and enjoy memories and pictures with the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or the athletic organization of your choice, or volunteer. Friends and family may call at any of the family’s homes at other times.

John was a sweet, gentle soul and we rejoice knowing he is with our Lord and we will someday be reunited forever in paradise. Suffer the little children to come unto me – for such is the kingdom of Heaven.
