HAMPTON — Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to a residence on Gap Creek Road in the Hampton community shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Thursday following a report of a child being struck with a lawnmower.
Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical personnel discovered a two-year-old child who had sustained a serious injury to their right leg. The child was swiftly transported to Niswonger Children’s Hospital by Highlands Emergency Air Rescue and Transport.
According to the child’s family, a family member was mowing the lawn when the lawnmower became stuck on a swing set. The family member proceeded to reverse the lawnmower, unaware that the child had run behind the mower while chasing a dog. The child was subsequently struck by the lawnmower and injured.
