Elizabethton student receives prestigious Distinguished Tennessean Scholarship

Rheagan Teara Haynes, a standout student from Elizabethton, has been awarded the prestigious Distinguished Tennessean Scholarship. This scholarship, awarded to one student from each of Tennessee’s 95 counties, will cover Rheagan’s tuition and fees for four years.

Rheagan, born and raised in Elizabethton, is the daughter of Ginnefer and Tracy Haynes Jr. She has four siblings: older brother Jordan Haynes, younger sister Peighton Haynes, and younger brothers Tray and CJ Haynes. Rheagan is an active member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Rheagan recently graduated with honors from Elizabethton High School, where she achieved the highest GPA in her graduating class, a remarkable 4.436, earning the distinction of Summa Cum Laude. In addition to her academic excellence, Rheagan was a member of the EHS varsity cheer team and served as one of the captains for the 2023-2024 year, continuing a cheerleading journey that began when she was just four years old.

During her time at EHS, Rheagan was involved in a variety of organizations, including the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Government Association, Clone Club, Key Club, Yearbook, Bible Club, and Mountain Club. She demonstrated her dedication to academic rigor by taking nine advanced placement classes over her four years and seven college courses during her senior year. Rheagan also gained practical experience through a prestigious internship with the District Attorney’s office.

With aspirations to study law, Rheagan plans to major in Political Science at the University of Tennessee. Her impressive achievements and dedication to both her academics and extracurricular activities have made her a deserving recipient of the Distinguished Tennessean Scholarship.
