The Elizabethton Police Department needs the public’s help identifying a man who passed a forged check at a local image002 (1)bank on May 6.
The man presented a check from a business in Banner Elk, N.C. The original check had been made payable to another business but had not been received in the mail.
The EPD said the check was in some way intercepted and altered to be made payable to an individual instead of the business.
When cashing the check, the man presented a South Carolina driver’s license in the same name, but it was later discovered it was a counterfeit ID card.
The same man is suspected in similar check cashing cases in the Tri-Cities.
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect should contact Investigator Todd Hamm of the Elizabethton Police Department at (423) 297-9002 or information can be provided anonymously through the Crime Stoppers Tip
Line (423) 542-7574.
