A 56-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after reports that he was intoxicated and had exposed himself at a local church.
Anthony Keith Walker, 56, 2566 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, was arrested shortly after noon on Wednesday by Carter County Sheriff’s Department Deputy David Munsey and charged with public intoxication and indecent exposure.
According to police reports, Munsey was dispatched on a report of a DUI at 2129 Old Lewis Road and the deputy encountered Walker while on that call.
“Upon arrival I saw a gentleman by the name of Tony Walker lying on the lawn of Pine Crest Church. I then approached Mr. Walker and I saw a bottle of Vodka lying by his side,” said Munsey in his report. “I asked Mr. Walker what he was doing there and he stated he was taking a break.”
Munsey said in his report that Walker’s speech was slurred and that the man had to be helped to his feet and “could barely stand on his own.” According to the report, Walker admitted drinking beer, but denied ownership of the vodka.
The report said Munsey also spoke with the church’s pastor, Mike Richards, who said he was leaving the church to attend a lunch meeting when he saw Walker and another man pull into the church parking lot in a gray truck.
“Pastor Richards stated that Mr. Walker then exited the vehicle and exposed himself to the public and urinated on the parking lot pavement,” Munsey said in his report, adding that truck and the other man seen by Richards had left the scene before the officer’s arrival.
Walker was then taken into custody, according to the report, and transported to the Carter County Detention Center.
