Students considering a profession in health care, whether it be as a doctor, nurse, veterinarian, dental hygienist or any other health field, soon will have an opportunity to network with representatives from health programs at colleges and universities across the region and beyond.
Hosted by East Tennessee State University’s Office of Medical Professions Advisement, the fifth annual Health Professions Recruitment Fair is scheduled to take place from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 22 in the D.P. Culp University Center Ballroom.
More than 130 health profession programs from approximately 37 colleges and universities will be represented at the event. Participating programs include allopathic medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, optometry, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychology, public health, U.S. Army scholarship programs and veterinary medicine.
All five of the colleges in ETSU’s Academic Health Sciences Center — the Gatton College of Pharmacy, Quillen College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Public Health and College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences — will be on hand as well. Graduate-level programs from the ETSU Department of Psychology will also participate as well as the ETSU School of Graduate Studies.
“This is truly a great opportunity for students to get to know the colleges and universities and the programs they offer,” said Martha Edde, MPA coordinator for ETSU. “Admission into these programs is highly competitive and getting one-on-one face time with these individuals gives students a tremendous advantage.”
The event is geared toward undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate students interested in professional schools in health care.
“I would encourage students with an interest in any of the health professions to make it a priority to get to this event,” said Doug Taylor, assistant dean and director of admissions at ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine. “This is perhaps the best event of its kind in the whole state. And the only alternative to going to something like this is that a student has to go visit all of these places individually to get that same face-to-face time with these folks. A busy pre-professional student doesn’t have a lot of time to do that.”
Students are advised to dress professionally for the recruitment fair.
