Twins squeak by Braves with 4-3 win

After a two-day break, the Twins traveled to Danville, Va., where they were able to scrape by with a 4-3 win Wednesday night.

In game one of the series between the Braves and the Twins, Elizabethton was able get it done in the ninth inning, after Manuel Guzman provided the go-ahead run when he made his way home off a double by LaMonte Wade.

The Braves got on board first in the second inning and went on to score two more runs in the third and fifth innings.

The Twins scored their first run in the third inning, when Wade brought home Kamran Young with a single.

Elizabethton tied things up in the fourth, with A.J. Murray scrambling home on a wild pitch to tie the game at two.

In the top fifth inning, Guzman scored on a fly out by Wade to put the Twins up by one, but the Braves answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to knot the game up at three.

The game went through a scoring drought for three innings before the Twins scored the game winner in the top of ninth.

Wade had a big night as he went 2 of 2, while bringing in three RBIs and one double. Young finished the night going 2 of 4, blasting one triple.

Elizabethton’s Alexis Tapia opened from the mound for the Twins. He threw for five innings, during which he recorded two strike outs against one walk. Tapia was replaced by Tyler Stirewalt, who threw for one, before being relieved by C.K. Irby. Irby (2-0) recorded the win for the Twins. He threw for one inning before handing the ball over to Kuo Hua Lo, who recorded the save.

With the win the Twins moved to 10-10, while Danville fell to 9-12.

The team will hit the field tomorrow to continue their series.
