“They were very excited,” JV coach Shonna Whitson Lane said about the girls after their big win. “During the game they were very focused. They came out and were ready to play.

“I think it was the first time that these girls have got the chance to beat an Elizabethton team.”

McGee, a freshman, spearheaded the attack with a whopping 34 points.

“We had a talk before the game about being a leader on the floor, and that is what she did,” Lane said about McGee. “She was a leader for the team.”

Roberts followed up  with 15, while both Henegar and Frazier chipped in 10 a piece.

Before getting a chance to play EHS, the Lady Warriors had to get past the Sullivan East Lady Patriots. And Happy Vallley had no problem doing that as they defeated Sullivan East 64-56 during the semifinals.

Leading the way was Roberts, who is a sophomore. She had 24 points during the contest.

“She had two great games Saturday,” Lane said. “She had good games offensively and defensively.

“I try to get our girls to understand that their offense will come out of their defense,” Lane added. “And that is what they did. “

McGee had 15 points during the Sullivan East game.

Weather permitting, the team will pick things back up with at game Elizabethton High School tonight.
