Cyclones ride big fourth to top South

The Cyclones came alive midway through Tuesday’s conference game to roll past the Sullivan South Rebels, 9-1, at Joe O’Brien Field.
With the game going scoreless in the first three innings, the Cyclones worked the bases for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Elizabethton got rolling with EHS’s Nico Ashley bringing home teammate Evan Perkins with a single. Cyclones Logan Estep and Matthew Dailey followed up by scoring on an error in right field. The rally stayed alive as Elizabethton Ethan Eggleston hit an RBI single before teammate Evan Carter popped a two-run double to left field. The fourth inning deluge ended with Cyclones Corey Russell smashing a triple to right field to score Carter giving EHS a sizable 7-0 lead.
The Cyclone scooted their edge to 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth as Carter hit an RBI single and Wetzel scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Russell.
The Rebels posted a run in the top of the seventh that was the result of an error.
At the plate, the Cyclones posted 11 hits. Carter finished with two hits and three RBIs while Wetzel recorded three hits on the evening. Russell finished the game with two RBIs and a hit.
On the mound, the Cyclones stuck with Carter throughout the contest as he struck out eight batters with zero walks. Carter had six hits and one run against.
