Cyclones split in tennis match with East

In a key Three Rivers Conference tennis match Tuesday played at the Elizabethton tennis courts, the Cyclone boys took an 8-1 match over the visiting Sullivan East Patriots while the girls couldn’t find a weak link against the Lady Patriots falling 9-0.
In boys’ singles play, No. 1 Elijah Smith defeated Josh Hubbs 8-4 to get things off on the right foot.
Jacob Lipford had little trouble in taking care of Trevor Nelson 8-3 in No. 2 play while Cyclone No. 3 Luke Carrier had a battle on his hand before putting away Blake Fannon by an 8-6 score.
Nate Wetzel of Elizabethton found the going tough against Hunter Cross in No. 4 singles as Wetzel gave a valiant effort before dropping a 5-8 match to Cross.
The Cyclones Patrick O’Quinn came through with a win in No.5 play handling Dustin Bartley 8-4 while No. 6 singles player Alex Taylor put away Shay Snyder in convincing fashion with an 8-2 match victory.
In boys’ doubles play, Elizabethton took all three matches against East with Smith and Carrier teaming up for an 8-2 win over Hubbs and Nelson in No. 1 doubles play.
The No. 2 Cyclone team of Lipford and O’Quinn followed suit with an identical 8-2 win over Cross and Bartley.
TJ Little and Wetzel teamed up to knock off Fannon and Snyder in an 8-1 match in No. 3 doubles.
On the girls’ side of the net, the Lady Cyclones just couldn’t put together a solid match as the Lady Patriots took all nine of the matches on the docket.
Elizabethton’s best chance at taking a match came in No.1 doubles action as Reagan Armstrong and Susanna Digby pushed Hannah Murray and Mackenzie Galloway to the limit before the pair from East took a 5-8 win.
Rachael Lamb and Abbie Addington fell 3-8 in No. 2 doubles play as well.
In singles play, the Elizabethton girls won only eight games out of six matches scheduled.
