Thanks to a partnership with 98.5 WTFM, giving circle 100 Plus, Tri-Cities Women Who Care will conduct its 8th Big Give Event on the TV show “A Closer Look” November 8.
Area residents are invited to watch or listen to presentations by three local nonprofits. Members will cast votes after the show airs, and the nonprofit with the most votes will receive the group’s collective donation of approximately $10,000.
The 8th Big Give Event will air on COZI TV from 6-6:30 a.m. and on MeTV WAPK from 11:30 to12 p.m. It will be broadcast via radio from 6 to 6:30 a.m. on Classic Hits 102.7 WVEK, 95.9 The HOG WRZK, and from 6:30 to 7 a.m. on 98.5 WTFM. Those who are unable to tune in will also be able to access a recording on YouTube and Facebook.
After the show airs, members will vote for their favorite charity. New members may join and vote until the voting period ends. All viewers, regardless of gender, are invited to donate to the selected nonprofit.
To date, members have contributed over $76,000 to local nonprofits since the group’s First Big Give Event in 2019. Recipients included Isaiah 117, Season of Hope, Levi’s Legacy, H.O.P.E., Cherished Mom, One Acre Cafe, and The Shepherd’s Inn.
Current members voiced support for the group’s continued work during the pandemic. “The widespread impact that COVID-19 has had on our communities is displayed in increased unemployment rates, suicide deaths, and domestic violence cases,” said member Melanie Lilly. “Through our virtual Big Give Events, we continue to provide donations to agencies who support and uplift those in our community.”
Lilly also encouraged area women to consider joining. “Through growth,” she said, “we will have the greatest impact.”
The giving circle is recruiting new members. “I feel privileged to be a member of this extraordinary group,” said K.C. St. Louis, member and owner of corporate sponsor Abingdon Olive Oil Company. “This is a group of 100 plus women who care about their community so deeply that they’re willing to give $100 a quarter to a worthy cause they choose. How cool is that?”
