Ribbon cutting held at new United Way of East TN Highlands

The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Elizabethton hosted a joint ribbon cutting for United Way of East TN Highlands’ new office in downtown Elizabethton Thursday.

United Way of East TN Highlands is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to break the cycle of poverty by uniting people and resources to strengthen the health, education, and financial stability of every person in the community.

They create partnerships, find new solutions, and utilize all resources to help individuals and the community.

“We are excited to move back downtown to continue serving the Elizabethton, Carter County nonprofit community,” said President and CEO Leslie Salling. “We look forward to being part of the downtown events and we know this new office location will strengthen our community partnerships.”

This new office will also be home to United Way’s Financial Empowerment Center sponsored by Carter County Bank. It will be the only one of its kind in the region.

“This center will help our neighbors become financially stable and build a strong foundation for their families,” said Salling. “We are so excited to have United Way back in Downtown Elizabethton!

“They are an incredible asset to our entire community and we are cannot wait to have them centrally located downtown. We look forward to continued partnership and opportunities together!”

“We are excited to welcome United Way to their new home in Carter County,” said Chamber Director Joy McCray. “They provide vital funding for so many programs that support those in need in our community.”

United Way’s new office is located at 546 E Elk Ave in downtown Elizabethton.
