It wasn’t ironic that when mascots were assigned to the new Appalachian League teams that the Elizabethton team was named the River Riders. After all, the Watauga River runs right behind Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark.
However, the real everyday river riders are the ones that actually take to the rivers and bodies of water that Carter County offers as part of its recreational resources including the Watauga River and the Watauga Lake.
Star Photographer Ivan Sanders was out and about and caught several folks taking to the water to attempt to stay cool from the soaring temperatures.
