Carter County Sports Hall of Fame inducts third class

The 2014 Carter County Sports Hall of Fame class was introduced on Thursday night at Elizabethton High School. This was the third annual ceremony and 20 inductees were introduced to a large gathering in attendance in the school cafeteria.

The inductees included EHS, University of Tennessee and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, Wes Holly, his daughter Kim Holly-Campbell, longtime referee Joel Pierce, former EHS track coach and athletic director Jim Presnell, as well as longtime Cloudland football head coach and assistant coach Garry Oaks.

Also inducted were Mike Young, Doran Marcus, Wiley Hardin, John Klock, Bill Birchfield, Jason Brewer, Al King, Robert Chambers, David Hughes, Mikki Brown, Milburn Ellis, Danny Webster and Earl “Whig” Campbell.

Elizabethton Twins manager Ray Smith was also inducted and will be presented his plaque tonight at the Twins’ home game against the Bristol Pirates.
