Vines putback pulls out OT win for Highlanders

The whole game was laying on Colby Birchfield’s shoulders, with 0.9 of a second left in overtime inside of John Battle High School Friday night.

He stepped up to the foul line with the score set at 76-75 in favor of the Patrick Henry Rebels. Birchfield’s first shot was nothing but net, tying the score at 76-76.

The Rebels’ fans got loud as Birchfield took a breath and let his second shot fly. It sailed right and bounced off the rim, but Highlander sophomore Dalton Vines would be there to board the ball and put it in the bucket for two as the buzzer went off. Cloundland’s fans went nuts as the scoredboard showed the Highlanders winning 78-76.
