Lady Cyclones finish perfect in Murfreesboro tourney

MURFREESBORO – The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones made the most of their Spring Break trip to Murfreesboro as Coach Ken Hardin’s squad went unblemished through their four-game schedule thanks to solid pitching and clutch hitting.
Elizabethton picked up wins over North Daviess, IN and Bellbrook, OH to close out their perfect slate.
Game 3

Trailing 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Cyclones strung together a pair of runs to take a 4-3 lead and held on for the big comeback win.
Elizabethton trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when they managed to even the score at 2-2.
Emma O’Quinn got things rolling with a lead-off single to start the frame for the Lady Cyclones. Mollie Johnson followed suit with a single of her own before Ember Jensen sacrificed both runners a base with a bunt.
Both runs scampered home when Kenidy Harris tore into a pitch for a single to pull her team even.
The ladies from Ohio went back in front in the top of the fifth inning as Brianna Richter was pegged by a Lela Byrd offering and Allie Hess picked up Richter with a double to center field with one out.
After being held in check in the bottom of the frame, Byrd and her teammates managed to work a 1-2-3 top of the sixth before putting together the two-out rally.
Jensen singled and was brought home by Harris on another single to pull the Lady Cyclones even at 3-3. Byrd helped her cause from the circle by singling Harris to second base.
Senior Cheyenne Poiroux then ripped the cover off the ball for a double that allowed Harris to race from second for the go-ahead run making the score 4-3.
A Sydney Burchfield single was all the team from Bellbrook could muster in the top of the seventh as Byrd recorded a strikeout and got the two other outs on pop flys.
Harris had two of the eight hits recorded by the Lady Cyclones on the afternoon, while Johnson, O’Quinn, Byrd, Poiroux, Lana Ward, and Jensen added one hit apiece.
Byrd picked up the win from the pitching circle as she hurled seven innings of five-hit ball allowing the three runs. She recorded ten strikeouts and walked one. Chasidy Stewart took the loss for Bellbrook.

Kenidy Harris continued her hitting tear in the Lady Cyclones final game of the tournament as the senior collected three hits on four trips to the plate to record four RBIs in leading the Lady Cyclones past North Daviess, IN.
The slugger had a double in the first inning, a home run in the third inning, and a single in the fourth for Coach Ken Hardin’s Lady Cyclones.
Elizabethton built a 10-3 lead at the end of the fourth and cruised to the win.
Ember Jensen matched Harris in the contest with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate picking up a RBI while Emma O’Quinn, Hannah Morgan, Lela Byrd, and Sadie Williams collected two hits apiece in the 17-hit attack.
Other Lady Cyclones making the hit column were Cheyenne Poiroux, Mollie Johnson, and Maely Ingram.
Lilly McDuffie was the pitcher of record for the Lady Cyclones as McDuffie pitched a complete game allowing five runs over seven innings on nine hits. McDuffie struck out two batters and didn’t issue a walk.
