Lady Rangers top Sullivan North

Unaka’s Lillie Kiser went 3-of-4 with four RBIs as the Lady Rangers defeated Sullivan North, 11-1, on the road Thursday.

The win makes the Lady Rangers 2-2 in the Watauga Valley Conference after topping University High on Tuesday, 14-7.

During Thursday’s win, the Lady Rangers racked up 15 hits, including Kiser’s performance, Unaka’s Kendall Bare had three hits while Madison Pierce picked up two. Unaka’s Noelle Collins and Taylor Potter each finished with two RBIs while Bare had one.

The Lady Rangers had two pitchers in the circle Thursday. Kailey Wilson (3 innings, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts, 1 walk) and Sadie Shoun (3 innings, 4 hits, 2 strikeouts) both did some work for Unaka.

Hampton score walk-off win over Avery County

The Bulldogs found themselves in a 1-0 hole as they entered the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday against Avery County at Scotty Bunton Field.

Hampton, however, would persevere for a 4-3 win.

Hampton’s Morgan Lyons was scored by Weston Street who flew out to left field to make it a 1-1 game in the bottom of the eighth.

The bottom of the ninth saw Dalton Rouse open up things at the plate with a double before his designated runner, Mitchell Tolley, scored off a double from Caleb Royston. Royston, after stealing third, scored on a passed ball to tie the game up at 3-3. Royston’s run was followed up by Landon Street reaching on a double after reaching third on a catcher’s error, Street was brought home by his brother, Weston Street, hitting a walk-off single.

On the mound, Hampton’s Devin Riddle earned the win after coming in  following showings by both Josh Owens and Morgan Lyons.
